VW Info

I have collected some information about who designed and why was the Beetle built; I've also collected some quotes of VW owners.

Who and why was the Beetle built?

Two men who shared a common interest and goal in life, an economic and dependable car for the working class, were brought together to accomplish that challenge. They were Ferdinand Porsche & Adolf Hitler. Porsche was the engineering genius who could design anything for anyone. Hitler was the dictator who preached to his followers that one day he would provide them with personal transportation that they could readily afford. With Porsche's expertise and Hitler's financial backing, the Volkswagen was bron; but, before the working class even took delivery of their promised car, the people of the world would endure the worst hostility they had ever seen, World War II.

Owners quotes

"My 1969 Beetle proved to me what a great car it was, as it took me anywhere I wanted to go, it never complained, it saved me money on gas, maintenence and repairs and it never let me down."

"My Beetle wasnt luxutrious, it wasn't as roomy as its American counterparts and it didn't pretendto be anything, but what it was to be: basic transportation for thw working class people, plus anyone else with the intelligence to make the right decision and buy one."

"The Volkswagen Beetle claimed to do well because of its low price coupled with small amount of money that was needed to keep it functioning daily, but those reasons weren't the entire story. The shape, the body lines, the homely look, the fact that it was different -all those factors combined to instill a bond between the owner and his car. The Beetle had personality. The Beetle had charm. The Beetle had character. The Beetle had feelings. The Beetle was alive and the owner was a friend who looked out for the Beetle, as a friend would do for another."

"The Beetle is the car for me and will continue to be so as long as I can find or make parts to keep it alive and humming as we traverse America together, as a team."
